In the next few minutes we will walk you through the same process we use with our clients to determine how productive their team is and if there is any wasted productivity worth paying attention to. The Four Phases Of Every CareerA number of years ago while attending a leadership workshop we were exposed to the idea that every employee is in one of the following "Four Stages of A Career". See if you agree …Phase One - Motivated/Not Competent … these are our newest employees. They are typically excited about their new career opportunity but just don't quite know yet how to perform their duties. Phase Two - Motivated/Competent … these employees are those that still have the enthusiasm for their job and now have mastered their duties to the point where they are consistently contributing to your team's goals and objectives. Phase Three - Not Motivated/Competent … this group includes those employees who have typically been around for a while, have mastered their job responsibilities but have lost the fire in their belly! We know statistically that most of your employee group will at least visit this category at some time in their career. If we do not become proactive about preventing employees from dropping into this category, or intervene when they do then we risk losing them to the next phase! Phase Four - Not Motivated/Not Competent … because they lost their motivation in Phase Three and they are no longer excited about the job they also stop learning what it takes to perform their duties successfully and become incompetent.
